All players ("Majors" age and older) in our baseball program are evaluated and placed at the level that is suitable for their current individual skills. Our philosophy is to find where each kid can have the best chance to succeed on the field in hopes to build them into confident and stronger baseball players as they progress through the program!
**Evaluations are held for Majors and our Travel teams (10U/12U/14U) FOR THE SPRING SEASON ONLY**
Teeball (In-House Program):
*Ages 4 & 5 (Coed)
The PMYB Teeball program is a great first instructional experience for both boys and girls. The emphasis is on teaching basic fundamentals while having FUN and learning what it's like to be on a team! We offer both Spring and Fall seasons. Each practice will last 60 minutes while games will last between 60-75 minutes. All children will start by learning to hit off of the tee and those who are ready, at the discretion of the coach, may progress to hitting a coach pitch. The organization will provide all playing equipment for each team (i.e. bats, helmets, baseballs, etc.) except for a baseball glove. Players may bring their own equipment to use, as well!
Fall Format: One weeknight practice followed by a Saturday game each week. Fall Teeball season typically starts the week after Labor Day and runs for six weeks.
Spring Format: One weeknight practice followed by Saturday morning game. Season will typically start the first week or two of April and run until the beginning of June.
"Minors" (In-House Program):
*Typically ages 6 & 7
Minors will be strictly coach pitch. Players will begin to learn about getting outs in the field. Games will be approximately 90 minutes long. Catchers will be introduced in this division. Score will not be kept and emphasis will be placed on playing the game the right way, creating a comfortable/positive environment for batters with coaches pitching, and taking the next step to learn more about baseball from the Teeball level.
Fall Format: Practices will start in mid August with games beginning after Labor Day Weekend. Teams will practice 1 time per week while playing a Saturday game each weekend, after Labor Day Weekend. 6 games will be played on consecutive Saturdays.
Spring Format: Season will start the at the beginning of April and continue until the beginning of June. Teams will have one weeknight practice followed by a Saturday game.
"Majors" (In-House Program):
*Typically ages 8 & 9
The emphasis of the Majors will be continue to develop on fundamentals while starting to teach more about the game of baseball from a strategic/game/team standpoint to better prepare them for more competitive baseball experience as they grow as baseball players and eventually play for our "Travel" levels in the LCYBL (listed below). Majors is mainly kid pitch with some coach pitch mixed in. Majors will consist of some modified rules compared to the 10U Travel level. Score and standings will be kept (for the Spring) BUT emphasis should be on developing and teaching the game the right way. Players are strongly encouraged to wear face shields on their batting helmets.
Fall Format: Season will start in mid August with games beginning after Labor Day Weekend. Teams will practice 1-2 times per week while playing a Saturday game each week starting after Labor Day Weekend. 6 games will be played on consecutive Saturdays. There is NO End of Season Tournament in the Fall.
Spring Format: Evaluations will take place for this division over the winter to help create equal teams. Teams will be created by the end of February. Mid-to-end of March teams will begin practicing 2x's per week times before the game schedule begins. Once games begin, the number of practices will decrease slightly and each team will play 1-2 times per week for the duration of the season (finish the first week of June). Practices and games will typically be on Saturdays, with an occasional game during the weeknight. Each team will play in our End of Season Tournament in early June, which will be played on the weekend, at Greider Park fields.
