COVID-19 Info

PMYB is committed to keeping the kids safe and also doing our best to give them a Spring 2020 baseball/t-ball season.  See below for our COVID-19 updates as we progress through dealing with this virus.

Update May 23, 2020:
The PMYB board met Thursday night to discuss options for the Spring seasons.  With all of the uncertainty around the virus and when Lancaster will get to the green phase it is a very challenging time for all of us.  We have been on hold now for over 2 months and it feels like we are inching closer to some sort of normalcy but it is a very slow process.  Our board understands the importance of youth team sports and what the kids learn by playing them (leadership, teamwork, sacrifice, etc.).  Here is a breakdown by age group as to what the plans are.

T-ball:  We discussed the many changes that would have to be made to the T-ball program and came to the realization that it would be impossible to keep the players socially distanced from the other players and the coaches.  One of the main issues, that anyone who has ever coached T-ball can attest to, is that it requires a very "hands-on" coaching style.  Just telling a kid to hold the ball a certain way, put your feet in a certain place, or hold your bat in a certain location doesn't work.  The coach has to physically position them until they learn those skills.  With the kids being 4-6 years old we decided that the best course of action was to cancel.  This was far from an easy decision but a necessary one.  We will be crediting the registration fees back to all of your accounts on our web site so when you register for the Fall season or next Spring you will have a credit.  If you prefer to get a refund please reply to this email and we will get it taken care of.  We can not refund the uniform cost as those were almost complete prior to the shutdown back in March.  We will set up a time for you to pick them up over the summer.  If your child will be playing T-ball in the Fall they will be able to use that same uniform.  If you have any questions please direct them to our T-ball Coordinator, Ryan Carson, at [email protected].

8U: At 8U, we talked about many of the same issues that we would have faced with T-ball.  With the kids being 7-8 years old it was determined that we will continue to be on hold.  If Lancaster reaches the green phase prior to early July then we will have a season.  There will be changes made to the structure of the practices/games and we will need everyone's cooperation.  With those modifications we feel that it will be as safe as possible for the kids to participate.  We understand that not all of you are comfortable with your child playing under these circumstances.  If your child will not be playing please contact Tony Russell at [email protected]  and let him know.  That will allow us to adjust our teams as necessary.   If you will not be playing we will be crediting the registration fees back to your account on our web site so when you register for the Fall season or next Spring you will have a credit.  If you prefer to get a refund please let Tony know that as well.  We can not refund the uniform cost as those were almost complete prior to the shutdown back in March.  We will set up a time for you to pick them up over the summer.  If your child will be playing 8U in the Fall they will be able to use that same uniform.

10U, 12U, 14U:  The Lancaster County Youth Baseball League is still on hold and has a plan in place to start as early as June 15 with the season ending by August 14.  All plans require that Lancaster be in the green phase.  There are options in place for the season if Lancaster is not in green by June 15 and possibly pushing the start back to early July.  We will send out additional information as soon as we have it.  If your child will not be playing please contact the coordinator below for your sons level.    If you will not be playing we will be crediting the registration fees back to your account on our web site so when you register for the Fall season or next Spring you will have a credit.  If you prefer to get a refund please let the level coordinator know that as well.  We can not refund the uniform cost as those were almost complete prior to the shutdown back in March.  We will set up a time for you to pick them up over the summer.  If your child will be playing in the Fall they will be able to use that same uniform.

Update May 4, 2020:
Not much to update but wanted to keep everyone informed.  We are still on hold for all baseball & T-ball activities.  We will be making a decision in the next couple of weeks and will send out more info as we have it.  I know a lot of us are really ready to start playing but we can only do it when it is safe for the kids.  If you have any questions please reach out to your child's level coordinator or president (contact info is on the Board page).

Update April 20, 2020:
The baseball and t-ball season is still on-hold and no cancellations have made as of now.  There was a Zoom meeting this past Thursday with the Lancaster County Youth Baseball League (where our 10U, 12U, & 14U teams play) where they expressed that if they can start the season by June 1 then they plan on having a full Spring/Summer season that would then last until the end of July or early August for playoffs.  For now we are going to follow a similar schedule for our in-house T-ball and 8U programs (start June 1 until end of July).

All of that obviously depends on what transpires over the next month with the virus and we will only be able to have a season if it is safe to do so and current restrictions have been lifted.   If safe & possible, it would be great to be able to give our youth something to look forward to during these trying times.  There may be some modifications made to the games/practices but as long as we can do it safely then we will try our best.

With that said, we also realize that some of you may not feel comfortable with your child in a team environment for the foreseeable future.  Below is a link to an anonymous survey that we would like all of you to fill out so that we can get an idea of how many kids will be playing if we are able to start June 1.  The survey will be open until this Friday night (4/24).  We will do a refund or credit of registration fees for anyone who is not comfortable with their child playing this Spring/Summer.  We are unable to refund uniform fees but you will receive the items you purchased.

There is a Coronavirus page on our website that you can check for all PMYB updates.  We hope everyone is safe and healthy and enjoying all the family time at home.

Update April 13, 2020:
I have received a few emails from parents asking about the Spring season for baseball and t-ball. All baseball/t-ball plans are still on hold until we can safely gather again on the fields. We are still hopeful and plan on having some kind of Spring season for the players but what that looks like will be determined by how long the restrictions that are currently in place last. If we all continue do our part now with social distancing then maybe this will pass sooner rather than later preventing us from having to cancel the Spring season.

One question that has come up is regarding refunds. We are not doing refunds right now but if we do end up having to cancel the entire Spring season then we will certainly figure out the best way to do that for the registration fees. We will not be able to refund the cost of uniforms as they were almost complete when the virus restrictions started. With those being customized for your child we cannot return them. You will still get the uniform and we will try to allow them to be used during the Fall season if your child plays. We will send out more info on this if we have to go that route. Let's just all hope that we can somehow still have a Spring season.

Update April 7, 2020:
No new information to share as we are still in a holding pattern as we wait for this virus to run its course and wait for it to be safe again to get on to the ball fields.  Hopefully we will have some new info as we get closer to the end of April.  In the meantime, stay safe and stay home as much as possible to help flatten the curve.

Update March 20, 2020:
With Governor Wolf's order that came out last night, all baseball plans are on hold until the order is lifted.  We are still hopeful and plan on having some kind of season for the players but what that looks like will be determined by how long the restrictions that are currently in place last.  We feel that it is important for the kids to be involved with a team but must follow the precautions currently in place but will do our best to get the kids on the field at some point.  If we all do our part now with social distancing then maybe this will pass sooner rather than later.

Update March 13, 2020:
Penn Manor Youth Baseball is monitoring the situation going on with the Coronavirus.  Our board will continue to talk about this situation and will send out any updates as necessary.   At this time we are suggesting the following:

1.  We are not cancelling any practices and will leave that decision up to each family.  If you feel uncomfortable with your child being in that environment and feel it is best to miss practice then your coach will not hold that against the player.  Please communicate with your coach so they are aware.

2.  If your child is sick with any cold or flu like symptoms then please keep them at home until they feel 100%.  If a player shows up to practice with those symptoms they may be asked to go home.

3.  We also ask that you remind your child to not share any drinks with other players.  If they are using the team equipment then they may be sharing that with other players.  It would be a good time to get them their own helmet and/or bat.

We will continue to monitor this situation and will send out any updates as necessary.
